Sean Miller (born November 17, 1968 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania[1]) is an American college basketball coach, and currently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Arizona.

In the 2010-2011 season Miller guided Arizona back to college basketball relevance. He led Arizona to its first top 10 ranking in the AP poll since January 8, 2007, and led the 'Wildcats' to their first outright Pac-10 Regular Season Title (its 12th overall), 30-win season (4th overall), Elite Eight appearance (9th overall) and its highest coaches poll finish (9th) since the 2004-2005 season.

In addition, Miller led the 'Wildcats' to their first unbeaten home record (17-0) in 14 years and was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year 2011. This was the first time an Arizona coach received this honor since Lute Olson did in 2003.

The 17 wins without a loss at home is tied for the second most in school history and is part of a 19-game home streak beginning in the 2009-2010 season.

In Sean Miller's system, the guards are the "throttle" of the team. Developing a well-conditioned guard with a total set of skills is a must in order to have success. In this DVD presentation, Coach Miller has put together one of the most comprehensive guard workouts that look to develop skill and condition players for a fast paced game.

Coach Miller divides his workout into two different segments: shooting and ball handling. He demonstrates six different shooting drills that will expand your guards' shooting ability out of multiple situations. These drills will maximize your player's number of shots, shooting on the move, shooting in transition, and shooting off the pick and roll. Coach Miller pushes his players to teach you how to incorporate conditioning within your shooting workouts. You will learn how to incorporate different moves and actions within your offense into a simple and challenging workout.

In the second stage of Coach Miller's guard workout, he demonstrates how to build better ball handlers. Coach Miller uses four different segments to train his guards to be confident when they handle the basketball. In stationary two-ball drills, he works to develop basketball strength and game intensity as your players focus on the court in front of them. You will learn one-ball drills that work to control the basketball on the move. In the transition ball handling segment, you will learn two different ways to attack your defenders in the open court: glide dribble against a trap and power dribble to attack the basket for an open shot.

In Coach Miller's fourth segment, he will teach you how to train your guards to be a throttle of your team's execution coming off of ball screens. You will learn six different ways teams look to defend the ball screen and how you can score with the counters he uses in his guard workouts. Whether the defender drops, the screener slips or the ball handler must split the D, your guards will be much more prepared for the game by being able to recognize how the defense is going to guard your screen.

Get your guards ready to dominate the action with Sean Miller's guard development workout. The drills he provides will train your perimeter players to attack any defense with high intensity and effective reads.

Wing Workout

• Develop your Wings into the most versatile
   players on your team
• Attack the defender with several moves from a
   triple threat position
• Set and use screens to free one's self for a
catch n shoot or catch n drive scoring
   opportunity
• Learn ways to put your wings into natural
offensive positions to score anywhere in the
   half court

with Sean Miller, University of Arizona Head Coach;
2011 Pac-10 Coach of the Year, 2011 Pac-10 Champions;
former Head Coach at Xavier, 3x A-10 champions;
2008 A-10 Coach of the Year

The most versatile player on the court is the wing player and for that reason Sean Miller has put together a complete wing workout to help you develop their skills and help them get a better feel for the game. Coach Miller works on all phases of the wing's game including post play, transition, cutting, screening, shooting, and ball handling. This is a comprehensive look at how you can develop your wing players to be the complete package on the court.

Coach Miller demonstrates four shooting drills that focus on the 1-2 step and shoot method. This simple 1-2 step routine gets his guys to be consistent with their balance and positioning on every shot. He shows you how to maximize your players time in the gym using seven spots on the court allowing your players to get up as many shots possible in a short amount of time. He teaches 2 pointers, 3 pointers, and shots on the move to simulate the actions your wings will take to score come game time.

A wing player must have the ability to catch and evaluate the scoring opportunity. Coach Miller has developed a wing segment called triple threat were players are learning to play off the catch in the half court. Catching the ball in the triple threat position give the wing player the best advantage possible. Coach Miller then uses this stance to work on different attacks. In order for your players to become a scoring threat, he teaches how to develop a dominant pivot foot leading into your cutting and scoring action. Using weak side, strong side, and catch and jab drives, your players will learn to attack any defender.

No wing player would be complete without the ability to come off screens and set screens in the half court. Coach Miller demonstrates every possible cutting action that your wing players will encounter in order to free themselves for an open shot. He teaches five basic screening actions in the curl, fade, pop, back cut, and button hook.

Once your players have mastered the cutting and scoring, they must be able to free their teammates for open looks too. Coach Miller teaches your wings how to read and set the perfect screen for teammates to get open. He also goes in detail into how the screener can get open after setting the screen creating a scoring threat using any type of screen. Several read and react actions such as slips, curls, change-of-directions, bumps, and button-hooks are all demonstrated as a means for a cutter to use the screen to create space for a score.

This is by far one of the best wing development DVD's that any coach must have in their collection. Develop the most dangerous offensive player on the court by learning these essentials attack skills from the wing.

• Get drills that teach your post players to cut
and score in Man and Zone Situations

former Head Coach at Xavier, 3x A-10 champions;
2008 A-10 Coach of the Year

Become a dominant post player and learn to use those skill in game-like action with this terrific presentation from University of Arizona Head Coach, Sean Miller. In this great DVD, Coach Miller breaks down the individual workouts that he puts his post players through. Coach Miller uses on-court demonstrators to workout his players in four different shooting series, three 1-on-1 post moves series, three off the lane fade series drills, and three cutting series drills.

The shooting series will gradually build your players' offensive repertoire from jump shots to put-backs to post moves and counter-moves. In every drill, Coach Miller conveys the important details of proper footwork, spacing, and angles. The drills incorporated in this video include:

One Two Step Shooting - Players are forced to focus on the essential skill
of getting your footwork right before you shoot. This emphasis on consistent
footwork creates a great base to increase your player's field goal percentage.

     • Shooting on the Move - While around the basket skills are the basis
for scoring for the bigs, becoming an effective shooter is just as important.

Toughness Series - A set of 10 drills using a heavy basketball. These drills help with
hand/eye coordination, give the players a better feel around the basket and develop
the weak hand as well as put the players through a tough conditioning workout.

Coach Miller uses situational drills to teach concepts that players will use in the game. A transition series is taught that simulates the post sprinting down the court and getting in a scoring position early in the possession. During the catch and finish series, post players are put into positions were they can learn to cut and score. The emphasis in this series is not on the actual post move, but rather a feel for how the defense is playing and the proper footwork that goes with the cut. Your players will learn to develop counters in the post so they are able to score against any defender. Offensive rebounding is also covered, which allows the posts great opportunities to score easy buckets around the basket.

While most of the above drills focus on creating advantages and scoring off of them, Coach Miller doesn't ignore the most common situations where his players will not have a significant advantage and must face the defender 1-on-1. In this set of drill coach teaches the players how to be effective scorers when they receive the ball on the low block as well as teaching them how to make a smart decision with the ball when help defense occurs. Finally a set of "Off the Lane" drills are taught. As the post player gets pushed off the lane, a strong face up move with an emphasis on "breaking the Knee" is taught to create good looks at the basket for the big guys.

Sean Miller's School of Skill Development presentation does a tremendous job of addressing the essential skills necessary to turn your post players into tough, fundamentally sound scoring machines. By developing the ability to score in the lane, in the post and off the lane any player learning these drills will be dangerous come game time.

All Access Arizona Basketball Practice with Sean Miller 3-Pack

Sean Miller, known for his ability to individually improve players and teams, provides insight into what has made his career a success. Within this three DVD set you will see three Wildcat practices in which Miller and his staff execute individual improvement drills, passing game offense, set plays, trapping defense of the post and special situations.

Warm-Up Drills:
Coach Miller begins every practice with pre-practice drills featuring individual workouts to improve offensive moves, shooting, conditioning and positioning for help side and on-ball defense.

During team practice you'll see a series of full-court drills to get your players focused on what they are going to accomplish that day at practice. Once the players have stretched, Miller's staff leads them through a 2-ball, 3-man shooting series to teach shooting and attacking the basket hard off of the dribble.

Transition Offense and Rebounding:
Miller shares his circle transition and 4-on-4 baseline touch series, which trains his players to sprint the floor hard in transition looking to score or get into their passing game offense. He also covers his Phoenix and Drag secondary screening series. Miller emphasizes taking advantage of post touches using post progressions, ball screening and a looping movement into their attack at all times.

Defense:
Miller teaches the pack line defense in which he wants to crowd the paint and shut down all gaps that allow dribble penetration into the lane to score. He teaches his defense with 2-on-2 gap closeouts, 3-on-4 shell, 3-on-3 shell and live play, and, using baseball scoring, his 1-on-1, 2-on-2, 3-on-3, 4-on-4 and 5-on-5 play to build on-the-ball toughness. Miller also shares his philosophy on trapping the post player and how he works on building it every day along with his zone defense.

Offense:
Miller uses film and on-court demonstration to teach his half court passing game offense. The Wildcat staff emphasizes screening, cutting, reads and details what needs to happen so the offense can be successful. You will also learn Miller's set play "family" series so that all players have a connection on the court with a purpose to aid each other.

Special Situations: Get insight on Miller's baseline and sideline out of bounds series to get a quick score or to get the basketball into the passing scheme of offensive execution.

This All Access is a great learning tool for any coach who wants to improve not only his drills and strategies, but also learn effective ways to communicate with players and run efficient practices.

Sean Miller, University of Arizona Head Coach

Sean Miller's Basketball Skill Development School 3-Pack DVD with Sean Miller - Picture from eBA Stats Basketball Statistics Analysis
Arizona's climb back to the elite level began April 7, 2009, when Sean Miller took over the reins of the heralded program. In the time since that announcement, Miller has given the Wildcats the stability needed to move forward with confidence, the focus to improve each day and the guidance of a leader who has found success everywhere he's been.

From his first team meeting - featuring just six players - Miller's first 12 months were a whirlwind of activity as he worked tirelessly to rebuild from within. He's added eight players, including 2010 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Derrick Williams, and re-established a system in which defensive intensity and offensive cohesiveness form a relentless unit at both ends of the court.

UA's 16-15 record in 2009-10 belies the fact that the squad made drastic improvements from start to finish, and more importantly, put into play Miller's belief that there is no such thing as a quick fix. Hard work and a dedicated effort each day breeds success. His charges have adhered to that philosophy each day since.

Miller, 41, completed five seasons as head coach at Xavier in 2008-09 prior to moving west, and carries a career coaching record of 136-62 (.687) in six seasons as a head coach.

While at XU, his clubs posted four consecutive 20-victory seasons and four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. The Musketeers won three Atlantic-10 Conference regular-season championships and Miller guided two Xavier teams to the Sweet 16, in 2008 and 2009. He is the school's overall coaching leader in NCAA play with a 6-4 record in his share of Xavier's 20 tournament appearances.

Miller's 2008-09 club won the A-10 championship finishing with a 27-8 record. The Musketeers lost to No. 1-seed Pitt as the No. 4 seed in the East Regional in Boston the day before UA's season ended in its Sweet 16 appearance in the Midwest at Indianapolis.

XU was ranked No. 20 in the final Associated Press poll and was ranked steadily after Nov. 25, rising as high as No. 7 on Dec. 15 and holding a spot in the top 10 (ninth) on Feb. 2.

As a player Miller participated in three NCAA Tournaments for Pittsburgh (1988, 1989 and 1991), coached in one as an assistant at Miami of Ohio (1995) and in three as associate head coach at Xavier from 2002-04. He is a member of the Pitt all-Centennial Team and a former all-Big East honoree. His Xavier squad reached the Elite Eight in 2008.

Moreover, Miller's work with his student-athletes off the court paid outstanding dividends with 100 percent of the basketball seniors who completed their eligibility since 1986 graduating. While a head coach, 13 Xavier players earned their degrees with an additional pair expected to do so in the near future. Arizona's Nic Wise extended that streak by earning his degree in 2010.

Sean Miller's Basketball Skill Development School 3-Pack DVD with Sean Miller - Picture from eBA Stats Basketball Statistics Analysis

His success with his student-athletes both on and off the court echoes the fact that Miller genuinely cares for their well being. That complete commitment to his charges is a strong indication of his character.

"It's easy to be a fan of Sean. I can't think of anyone in the profession who is more honest and more loyal. Sean is as good a person as there is in college basketball," said Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News.

He is Arizona's fourth appointed head coach in the last 36 years dating to a 10-year run by Fred Snowden from 1973 to 1982, one year by Ben Lindsey and Lute Olson's remarkable run from 1984 to 2007.

Miller's 30-7 record in 2007-08 set a Xavier record for victories in a season, and helped earn him Atlantic 10 Conference honors, along with his 14-2 record and second A-10 regular-season title. The National Association of Basketball Coaches named Miller its District 10 Coach of the Year and he was a finalist for a number of other national coaching honors.

His overall record (120-47) ranks him third all time on Xavier's coaching chart behind Pete Gillen (202-75 from 1985-94) and the late Skip Prosser (148-65 from 1994-2001).

Xavier finished 25-9 overall in 2006-07, Miller's third year as the Xavier University head coach. XU won the 2007 Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season championship and advanced to the second round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Miller finished 21-11 in the 2005-06 season, winning the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship and earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Miller took over as head coach in 2004, replacing Thad Matta. He was Matta's right hand man the previous three seasons as XU's first-ever associate head coach. Miller helped the Musketeers record three straight 26-victory seasons and three straight NCAA Tournament appearances that culminated in the 2004 Elite Eight run.

Miller began coaching at Xavier after stops at North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Miami (Ohio) and Wisconsin. He has coached on 14 teams that advanced to postseason play in his first 18 seasons as a head coach, assistant or associate head coach. That includes seven NCAA Tournaments in his eight years at Xavier. In 18 seasons as a head, associate or assistant coach, Miller's teams have produced 15 winning seasons and averaged better than 20 wins per season.

Considered Pittsburgh's best three-point shooter of all time, Miller was a Big East all-Rookie team pick in 1987-88. In his four-year career he helped lead the Panthers to three NCAA berths and an NIT appearance. He was No. 17 entering 2009-10 on Pitt's all-time scoring chart with 1,282 points, ranked 10th among career Division I free throw shooters at .885 and ranked third all-time in Big East career assists. He was seventh in three-point shooting on the Big East career chart.

He played on the United States' 1991 World University Games team that earned a gold medal after his final year at Pitt. He was named to the Pitt all-Centennial Team in 2005.

A native of Beaver Falls, Pa., Miller was born Nov. 17, 1968. He and his wife, Amy, have three sons, Austin, Cameron and Braden. He prepped at Blackhawk High School and earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Pittsburgh in 1992.

Miller was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Hall of Fame in June 2012.
